This pair of large wall mirrors are probably the rarest examples of their type that one can find. Pique Assiette refers to a type of French provincial art circa 1920/30’s (sometimes called folk art) where by shards of ceramics (all antique and sometimes considerably older than the piece itself), mostly from plates and cups, are carefully and intricately embedded together to form in this case mirror frames, with a mesmerizing, myriad of shapes and colours , truly stunning and each unique. The frames are of substantial molded Mahogany around heavy mirror plates. We bought these directly from a small chateau in the south west of France, the lady of the house ( a charming chain smoking octogenarian)! said she had purchased these mirrors in the Cote D’Azur in the 60’s, They have undergone painstaking cleaning in our workshop and are once again vibrant!
One mirror of this size would be rare, but a pair really is exceptional!
